Shpilkes

Shpilkes meaning can be seen here ... you may have heard this before and it is one of those "foreign language" words that has crept into the English vernacular.

We awoke this morning not knowing what to expect from hurricane Otis, hovering off the coast near Acapulco. The storm was apparently rated as a category 1, so not sure how it would affect settlements as it neared land. There was a steady drizzle for a while in the morning. We anxiously awaited any updates as we had plans to go to Irma hotel next door for a buffet breakfast, then cab it to Sam's Club with Lynn for some supplies.

It appeared that the storm was not much of a threat to Zihua so proceeded with our plans. We did notice that our cell and internet services were down, not surprising since the storm had been upgraded to a category 5 and had touched down in Acapulco, some 250 km south of here. It being one of the bigger bergs in Mexico, we attributed the outages to some damage Otis had done there. The buffet did not disappoint. Lynn pointed out how when Ranae and Dominique approach the buffet bar, management breathes a sigh of relief since they east so little. This is not even close when guys go up to the bar as some/many of us eat enough for two. Imagine a growing 17-year old teenager with teh appetite of four.

We cabbed it as planned to a deserted Sam's and there were only two cash registers open at checkout and we were served almost immediately. We waited and waited for a deterioration in the weather which never came ... bones. We were unable to find out what was happening in Acapulco due to the internet being down. We retired at the usual hour, hoping for better news upon awakening Thursday AM related to the hurricane
