Learning new songs

This ebbs and flows ... sometimes I don't touch my songbook for days then other times I madly learn a few new songs. My latest acquisitions are Hendrix, ABBA, and Traveling Wilburys. The show we watched a few nights ago got me started on the Wilburys. I have a network of music genres, artists with more than 4 songs in my repertoire, then a spattering of other artists here and there. Using a combination of hyperlinks and bookmarks, I have all the songs accessible by genre or artist. It took me a few weeks a year ago or so to get all this cross-referencing set up but it was worth the investment of time. As I pick up new numbers, I am often surprised who the author is as opposed to who made the song popular. Some of the best examples of this are:

  1. One Fine Day (Chiffons) writer ... Carol King
  2. Take Good Care of my Baby (Bobby Vee) writer ... Carol King
  3. La Vie en Rose (Edith Piaff) music author ... same
  4. Under the Boardwalk (The Drifters) author ... Carol King
  5. The Crying Game (Culture Club) author ... Geoff Stephens!!! Say what?

Do you see a pattern here ... amazing the material Carol King wrote long before she released Tapestry. Reminds me of the Carol King/Joni Mitchell game Dominique and I play. I do a song, then ask her which one wrote it. She is scoring about 75% as of the most recent event. The list is endless with so many numbers we grew up with ... see here. Someone is doing very well thank you very much. One cannot forget her earliest song writing companion/spouse Gerry Goffin. The most recorded number she wrote appears to be You've Got a Friend from her Tapestry album.

We are off to Intercam bank and breakfast after Letty returns some cushions she was covering for us. We expect to get leave just after 9, deliberately not arriving at the bank immediately after it opens, hoping this will raise our chances of finding some elusive 200 peso bills. When we were last there, there were none of these to be seen. Dominique's theory is if we get there before the early morning delivery of a fresh wad of bills from Intercam's currency vault, this denomination, being the most sought after, has been depleted.

Letty returned some shorts she was taking in yesterday. They are all perfect and now I do not need to wear a belt like before. She took some cushions from the couch to put some covers on where I usually sit. One thing, of many, I inherited from my Mother was very active sweat glands. There must be something "special" about my persperation as it easily stains the couch material. We expect her shortly to return the cushions then off to the bank.

We just emailed our MP with the following, with our feedback on the recent EV 2035 announcment made by our "ruling" party:

First of all, I emailed you some time ago about a situation with Westjet advertising fares that are not accompanied by currency indicators. For example, pricing something at $650 then a little further in the process, the real fare is $650 USD which runs about $987 CAD. I was under the impression they were not allowed to do this. I got no response from anyone at your office ... but here we go again.

How do the feds expect middle income wage earners to buy electric vehicles whose prices as of now run at $60,000 or more? It's all fine and dandy to want to stop selling new vehicles dependent solely on fossil fuel. The $65,000 household wage earner, at least based on the current cost of EVs, will never be able to go completely electric. It is one thing to spout these sorts of commitments for a governing party to gain the support of their caucus but how about thinking of Jill and Jack wage earners at the middle or bottom of the salary tree?

In my opinion, this is an example of announcements authorities make that are oblivious to the plight of the private citizen, especially the ones that put the ruling party there in the first place.

Standard behaviour for the party in power ... this adds to the true meaning, in this context, of the word ruling ... forcing unrealistic rules on the plebeian general public with no thought whatsoever for anyone other than the persons making the "rules." In line with my recent definition of a politician ...  a person who wants for force her/his beliefs on society. Harsh but so true.
