Who would'a thunk!
The day started just like a standard Tuesday ... bridge game at 8am here which I run and Dominique and Patsy play. Shortly after the game finished, we headed out to centro. Our mission today was to find a folding chair that I could use to practice my music every week in prep for Thursday at Zihua Bay.
That turned out to be harder than we expected. We hit a handful of furniture store, even running into a few that had folding tables but no similar chairs. One of the first places we asked had a nice pine (treated for termites [so they claimed]) chair that seemed to have a smaller than hopeful footprint. One of the stores we were at had two different type of what we wanted but both were white and looked anything but brand new. We hit Elektra whose third floor had furniture but nothing even close to what we were looking for. This is the same outfit where I bought the bocina (speaker/amp) that I gig with.
We discussed how probably the only place(s) to find what we were looking for were Soriana and Bodega Aurere. We cabbed it to the latter. The driver tried to convince us that Soris was a better place to go but we insisted on Bodega.
We found what we were looking for there, though we could not figure out how to get the unit closed. We got further assistance from a clerk and mastered how to close the chair. It takes quite a bit of elbow grease. We looked around the joint as we are thinking of transferring our big box day-to-day vendor from Soris to Bodega. Every time we go to Soris, or close to every time, the lineups at the cash are atrocious. Soris apparently uses the excuse that they cannot find enough qualified cashiers to open more checkouts. We would add to that what we feel is THEE or a bigger reason they cannot find the cashiers ... they do not pay enough!
We loved the look and price of the whole chickens and we found thighs there which we have not seen since we got here in October. While we were ogling the whole chickens, a couple put what appeared to be 40 of them in a cart. Either they have a restaurant where BBQ chicken is popular or they have 37 teenage sons who are hungry 38 hours a day and could probably eat half a cow each.
We head out to the taxi stand. Another couple is already there and has been waiting some time before we arrived. We wait and wait and wait. A few empty cabs drive by but the drivers make a gesture with their hands and do not stop. Then a local tells us what is going on. The taxis have been told not to pick up fares by some unmentionable organizations. We will leave this to your imagination about what is going on. We walk about ½ mile or so and park ourselves in the shade beside an automobile garage. We have no idea when the taxis will be picking up fares again.
I suggest we call Hugo and see if he can come and get us. That worked, so we toddled off to the Intercam bank and he arrived about 15 minutes later. He told us that the window people were here while we were out and will wait for our return. We have been waiting for someone to come and look at our sliding doors since mid-December.
When he picks us up he tells us they are sort of not really here. They were told that Residencias Kau Kan is near the Irma hotel. The guys went to Casa Kau Kan at Playa Linda, a long way from here. Hugo speaks to them again. They inform him they will come after lunch. They did show up about 4:30.
We showed them what we wanted them to do and, at Lynn's suggestion, took them up to their place to show them how the rollers on their sliding doors are mounted differently than ours. We come back down and Hugo brokered more discussions with them. They can reverse the rollers as we suggested, however, their being here today is solely an assessment exercise. Hugo will speak to their office manager and get a scheduled time for them to do the work.
I the showed them the sliding doors in our bedroom and how we would like the glass and screen components to slide past centre. Their sliding past centre will allow me to finish off the weatherstripping insulation project that has been held up since mid-December. They managed to find and remove the screw that was keeping the screen doors from sliding past centre. They found what needed to be removed to allow the right glass slider to do the same but the allen wrench we had for them was not deep enough.
Regardless of what they did or did not do, we were not confident that they would show up at all after their lunch break ... hence the title of this post. Dominque is up at Ranae's for happy month and I might play bridge tonight online at a club that services Mississauga and Oakville.
