Arrival of the century
Gail and Michael's arrival at our place was in record time. We hung out for some time as they got settled and changed into summer attire. They left for a walk around 4:40pm or so. We decided to walk for a bit before dinner and went to the pier. As we passed Tata restaurant we heard a "Michael" from somewherein the crowd and it was Michael and Gail checking out their stock of Victoria beer. We sat with them for a while then headed to Tejita for cena.
There was only one table occupied when we got there, but naturally it filled as the it got later. About 6:15 the entertainment arrived and we were excited to hear José Luis Cabo again. He did not disappoint. I spoke with him briefly before he played. We ordered beverages, natch, close to our arrival time. We all had a margarita, sometimes maybe regarded as the national drink of Mexico? I am sure Modelo who manufactures what appears to be 80% of the beer in this pais would object to that assessment.
Michael ordered the flank steak, the ladies both the chicken, and I got the spicy spaghetti with a few shrimp perched on top. Interesting ... I just thought how that word perched could refer to the fish by that name. Three orders arrived at the same time and we were puzzled as to what could have possibly happened to Dominique's main course. The server confirmed with her the nature of her order before leaving the table. We are not sure what happened but believe she forgot to place it.
José Luis was playing by the time her food arrived and we were somewhat annoyed. The chit chat the four of us had was dynamic and we enjoyed each other's company. We had a feeling that the service there was not what we were used to. We had noticed that the owner, Paco, was not there until well into our visit. He did appear and we got the feeling that the extraordinary attention to detail may only be possible with him there. Besides the fact that there was now an extra body, it just seemed more like the Tejita we remember once he arrived.
He came over to say hello close to our leaving time and we did our best to give him some constructive feedback on what happened. He was receptive and, like the true gentleman/professional he is, listened and made no excuses. We stressed how we were trying to help him by offering the feedback and it was obvious from how it was received that he accepted it as just that. I mentioned to him that I am doing a gig at Zihua Bay weekly and he asked me for my cell number. He also mentioned that an entertainer he had been using was not working out. This person he said did not establish much, if any, of a rapport with the diners. We will drop off my portfolio some time when out and about ... we shall see.
I am in love with a Cole Porter song I have picked up called Begin the Beguine and am struggling with one part of the break. The break in a song is a part that differs noticeably from the music during the verses and choruses. It adds flavour and variety to a song. I am also working on How Deep is Your Love from the Bee Gees which is tricky, but well worth the effort. I'm going to have a look as well at their disco ditty called Jive Talkin'.
We went with Gail and Michael to Doña Licha for breakfast for lunch. The food was good and the company better. Afterwards we split up and went to get a papaya before heading to the dock to get a SailFest t-shirt for Dominique. We cabbed it home to find Gail reading on the balcony and Michael catching 480 winks ... the norm being 40, but with the MXN ⇒ CAD exchange rate, that's 480.
We watched a M.A.S.H. episode and, as usual, it did not disappoint. I find the show funnier than the first time I watched it starting over 50 years ago. I guess that number of years experience at life makes so much more of it ironic and hit home as I have close to 19,000 more days under my belt than when I was a young naive 23 year-old back in 1972. I feel like a clairvoyant whenever we watch that show ... I correctly predict before every episode starts that the central theme will be Hawkeye and company harassing Frank and Klinger displaying yet another outfit from Macy's.
We tricked Michael and Gail when we went for lunch. They want to pay a lot so we grabbed the cheque for once.
We headed out for dinner about 5:40pm and cabbed it to Suspiro. The view ... oh my. High up the hill on the south end of Zihua. We grabbed a table right by the front of the place and the view over the bay was spectacular. There was a four course special menu for Balemtimes and both of us chose the beef. Brother Michael had what we had and Gail some salmon. There were two small choices before the main course as well as a dessert of choice. We were there about three hours and every microsecond was a treat. The spinach salad was covered with an amazing dressing which probably had a garlic base with garlic and garlic mixed in with the oil.
