What a difference a day makes
I embarked on a process to find airfare for our jaunt out west in June. The prices I had seen when I was scoping it out a few days ago were no longer in affect. Dominique remembered that there was a Westjet sale on that ended February 13. It's too bad that we were unable tio book during that period. The cost for each one of us during that trip was about $800 for each of us. Once I started scoping it out yesterday, that turned into close to $1,400 per. We will keep trying and looking for the next PR email from Westjet and news on their next sale period.
Something else I took some time to investigate had an expected outcome. One of the base fares Westjet offers is say something line $274. Then they have a higher fare with free seat selection and free one checked bag. That fare is something like $392. What a deal ... not so fast. With the cheaper fare, the price for seat selection is around $28 and the checked bag about $40. That together makes $68 AND the extra charge for the "free seat selection and one checked bag" differs by $118. I rest my case. These airlines are supposedly running under "controlled" business practices, which in reality are anything but. I'd like to inspect the coffers of the ruling parties in Canada to see how much the airline carriers support their election campaigns.
As usual, it was a nice night to be outside. There was no breeze though like we have experienced a few other evenings when I played at Zihua Bay. We headed out about 5:45pm. About ½ way there, I checked in with Dominique about the computer and she told me she did not have it. We went back and I picked it up. In the elevator a few minutes later I ran into one of the owners in this building and three times he said something to me that included a word that contained an f.
There was a nice crowd at the place, but not as busy as the last few weeks. Dominique has mentioned that the gringo count starts to go down as we approach late February. She believes that February is the peak for gringos. It should be interesting from now for the last eight or so weeks we are here to see if the trend continues.
Dominique has the last of two pow-wows upstairs at 10am. We need to go to Intercam bank this afternoon as we are headed into a weekend where we will be dining at two restaurants that only acceot cash. We have noticed this trend more and more this year. Carmelitas, a spot in centro, stopped accepting credit cards last year. That year they had a small sign at the back of the establishment mentioning the cash only policy. We were perplexed since the sign was so small. This year the sign has been moved to a prominent location, easily readable before anyone sits down and orders.
Tomorrow at 9:30am is the condo AGM. Historically they have been long and stressful, dominated by a handful of owners with their own agenda. Leo from the penthouse is in line to chair the meeting and Dominique feels secure in his crowd management skills. There is a handful of owners here who believe they can be rude, verbally abusive, and confrontational with other people and they believe that is acceptable.
We are enjoying Gail and Michael's company during their whirlwind visit to Z this year. We have an action-packed schedule until they leave on Tuesday.
