Priorities off kilter
What else is f_____g new! The morons that run our society ...
There is an ATP tournament running now in Acapulco. It just goes to show where the authorities' priorities are. There are homeless families not to mention businesses that were devastated by Otis and are still not back. For the small business owner this entails the removal of 100% of that family's income. And while this goes on, a tennis tournament!!! How many millions of pesos were spent restoring the facility rather than assisting Jack and Jill citizens sleeping in the open for the past four months!
Someone may come back with but it's good for the economy and morale of Acapulcians. Hogwash ... what's good for Acapulcians is restoration of food, shelter, and water, all in short supply since Otis' visit in the fall. When we were at Intercam today, there was a storyboard on a screen asking all to help support the relief effort in Acapulco - not F'ING support the rebuild of a tennis facility. These comments may seem harsh to some and I invite those people to go to Acapulco, scrounge for drinking water, and deal with the punishing sun since they have little or no refuge during daytime highs in excess of 30° Celsius. And we need a tennis tournament ... please!
This is not unique to Mexico. When the Elbow River went nuts in Calgary a few years ago, the Saddledome where the Flames play hockey was restored very quickly.
Dominique headed out this morning about 8:30 to drop off some beach chairs that we do not use any more. We saw Maria, whom she gave them to, when we were walking to Intercam bank later this morning. We did the needed task at Intercam then cabbed home. About 2:30 we headed down to the market for tomatoes, cucumbers, and a potato. We then went to Barracruda to buy tickets for GuitarFest. We are going Saturday March 2 to opening night, then two evening shows the following Monday and Friday. The three nights of entertainment were a whopping 800 pesos or about $66 CAD. The week of Mar 3 climaxes with son Ben and lady Crem arriving early afternoon Saturday March 9.
