From awful to excellent
... describes what we saw last night at GuitarFest. We crashed Lynn and Ranae's date and joined them at 3 Amigos for a burger before going to the show. This spot is a fav of the three of them and now I know why.
Casa de La Cultura was maybe 10% full when we arrived about 7:35. There was a trickle of people filling the seats until an on time start of the show. By then the place was maybe ⅓ full if that. The act that was due up second was doing their sound check not long after we arrived. As was the case when we saw them Saturday, the bass notes were chest resonating. I ended up going to the sound booth and discussing with one of the techs. It must have been the way I addressed the "problem" as the guy said he would monitor. By the time the second act was on, the sound was just fine and my chest breathed a sigh of relief.
The first act was a solo guitar player and saying it was awful is an understatement. We could not hear him very well and when he ended a piece the audience politely clapped though most of the time we were not immediately aware that he had finished something. Unfortunately this is the theme of the 20th GuitarFest ... so many artists who do not generate much energy on stage, unlike previous incarnations.
Act number two we had seen at opening night and they were light years better than what we had seen then. A guy and a gal played a lot of traditional numbers and their chit-chat was low. By the time their act was drawing to a close, the place was probably close to ¾ full, as was expected base don who was on next.
Jossy Gallegos was her fabulous self and she got a few standing ovations throughout the show. She has a range of many octaves and her guitar playing is a perfect foundation for her amazing voice. She asked Tim Williams to join her for a number and teh did On the Road Again. The attendees would not let him leave the stage after only one number. His guitar embellishments were superb and he always outs his all into entertaining. We would not let Jossy go when she was done so she did a two song encore included Journey's ditty Don't Stop Believin'. Her set was worth the admission price to a ticket to an arena show at Madison Square. She is always a treat and last night it was garnished with whipped cream, chocolate chips and a dash of cloves.
We cabbed it home and crashed. Son Ben let me know on WhatsApp that he has the flu and it is the worst he can ever remember. He mentioned if Crem gets it to, they will hve to cancel their trip here that starts Saturday. Bummer.
We had yet another small game this morning. It is understandable that online game attendance is down everywhere due to clubs reopening over the 18 months. We are doing laundry thius morning and we had another flood, not as big as the one two weeks ago. Pretty close to home all day. I would like to play bridge at 6:30pm and will mention to Dominique. We are having leftovers for dinner so should be turnkey.
Our chat with Andy Smith about selling this condo went well. After his advice coupled with the chat with Jan and John on Saturday, we fell we are just leaving first base (using the baseball analogy). Before speaking to those three, we were still on our way to teh diamond. The major decision we have/are close to making is to go to Chapala on our way to Zihua in the fall rather than come to Zihua and then do a trip there. Jan mentioned the earlier the better before all the sweet spots are gobbled up by gringos.
Laundry was the theme of today. We did not go out at all. We are finding the internet service here more and more of a joke every day. We are paying for 499Mbps and know we will not always get that. The measurements we are getting vary from 6 to a maximum of 210. The providers get away here with exactly what they do at home. The thing we have the most trouble with is live streaming. We did purchase a second service called Stream.Q which i use to watch just that and it works very well. The other service we have plays one show after another and, when live streaming, it is mostly a round thin blue ring rotating in the middle of the screen ... that's called buffering.
Dominique putzed around for quite a while today on the internet and there was the odd kerfuffle for which I intervened. At one point she was trying to go to the next step in booking an appointment somewhere and her clicks to continue were not being processed. That's why they call it the internOt.
