Paper, we got paper

... we got lots and lots of paper. With the new administrator starting today, we have a new way of having her pay some bills on our behalf. This is a take off on a jingle that was played as part of the Perry Como show on TV in the 50s. In that case it was letters rather than paper. Same commodity, different subject matter.

Previously, Dominique would transfer money to Hugo's personal account and he would pay our bills from there. It was pointed out that these transfers ciuld be viewed as income. The new system involves Patty having access to a new account (hopefully) that she and Dominique will (try to) set up today. Patty will get an access card to that account, and take money out of it to pay bills. Lynn reported doing this account setup recently, and I think I remember his saying it took 2+ hours.

It reminds me of when we went to immigration last October to get my residency card and it took vlose to 90 minutes to process and there was paper after paper after paper to be signed. It was like this when I was in Ethiopia in 2009-10 ... not only was there a lot of paper bureaucracy, but I had a passbook that I used at the bank like when I was 9 years-old getting my first bank account in the 50s as well.

Things were busy during Semana Santa last week, but not as much as we expected. By early afternoon most days late in the week or on the weekend there was quite a lineup of umbrellas on Playa Madera. We noticed only one line of cars on one day backed up past our building and more stuck trying to get down to Plaza Kioto. The beach is back to its almost deserted state as of this morning but it's still early ... a mere 8:48am.

We went for a walk shortly after bridge. We did the long route to Soris and initially walked the canal path but found it too sunny. We crossed over to the other side and there was more shade. We stopped at Soris on the way back and she went in while I camped out by the intersection where Soris is. She ended up buying some Pringles for us to take on the plane when we leave Z a week Sunday. Our flight leaves at 7:18am so we will have to head out of here by 5:30 or so. We stopped across from Irma hotel on our way back to the place and asked one of the drivers if the cabs are there that early in the day. We were told there should be at least one at the stand by our building and, if not, one or more by Irma.

Dominique's trip to the bank was postponed until tomorrow. She had some paperwork to fill out and the bank wanted a copy of her passport and residency card which we sent off to Patricia. Always more complicated than expected.

I keep noticing societal things in movies and shows on TV and I want to live the rest of my life on television because...

  • People don't password protect their cell phones or computers
  • They always get really good parking spots
  • Music follows you around, the source and genre depending on what you are experiencing at the moment
  • When you set up at a location to watch for someone or wait for something to happen, it happens a very very short time after you get there
  • Often the person one has the hots for feels the same about you
  • You need to do something immediately and, surprise surprise, the thing you need to pull off what you need to do is right there ... e.g., you need to make a quick getaway and there just happens to be a motorcycle there with lots of gas, the front forks unlocked, and the key in the ignition
  • Someone suffers some sort of medical emergency and there is always a doctor or nurse in the place where it happens to help you out
  • One needs to force one's way into a room and there just happens to be a crowbar hanging on the wall ... how convenient
  • You want to use a machine at the gym and as you approach it, the person using it finishes up
  • In the hospital, one always gets a private room
  • When a medical emergency happens at a hospital, a crowd of nurses and doctors descends on the room and fusses over the patient’s distress … the operative word here is crowd
The list is never ending. We booked our COVID booster for Wednesday April 17 in the morning at WholeHealth in the Glebe.
