Back to "normal"
Of sorts. The throngs of people have dissipated somewhat and the streets are not as congested. "day off" from bridge. Dominique did some putzing around the house then we headed off for a walk. We traversed Playa Madera's sand for the first time since we got here in October. With high tide going further up the beach this fall/winter, the wet compacted sand is higher too, making it easier to walk without it getting all over our sandals. Bonus!
We stopped at Cafécito for lunch and it was the first time we had a meal there, which, naturally, did not disappoint. She had the Kahlua and I the vanilla cold coffee specials. I always give her a spoonful of the whipped cream and chocolate chips off my beverage ... true love at its finest.
We then walked towards the main peer, and headed over to Cinco de Mayo, passing Irving at Guitarra Pepe and said our hellos and goodbyes. We then headed towards the main drag called Benito Juarez. We stopped at an electronics store so I could have a look at the bocinas (what they call a standalone guitar/microphone amplifier. I need two phone jack inputs, or at least one and a low impedance mic input. Their prices ranged from 1,999 to more than 11,000 MXN which is about $156 to $862 CAD. The model I liked was 2,300 or $180 CAD. I asked about their having mics and stands but they did not.
We then headed to store behind Coppels and saw some way too expensive units that started at 6,500 MXN. They were ruled out. We did see a nice small unit that oddly enough had:
- A standard phono jack input for the mic
- A low impedance input for a guitar
I sent a text to Alfredo Moya with a few questions. I mentioned that my guitar playing skills are adequate but not anywhere close to advanced. I asked him if he thought a club here could let a gringo play alone. If that worked out, and there were some paper in the tip jar, I would give it to a charity. I also asked for assistance to see if he had a suggestion about where to buy equipment. Have not heard back from him yet. When using SMS with Alfredo, it sometimes takes forever and sometimes close to immediate.
I did a money transfer using Wise and was told it would take 2-3 business days. Oh my ... the money arrived in my account in 97 minutes! Dominique and I will set up her account in Wise so she can use it as well. I now have two ways to move money to Mexico ... Wise as well as TD global transfer.
The evening was taken up by my watching Michael Douglas and Sean Penn in The Game while Dominique feasted on House Hunters International. I had seen this flick before BUT the plot is always intriguing. We watched an episode of MASH together and, for some reason, there were two (yet to be named) doctors who pulled one of their never-ending stunts on Frank Burns. She then watched an ancient series starring Scott McGillivray called Income Property. He fixes up parts of a house so the owners can start renting to assist their lowering their mortgage payment. This time it was a four bedroom suite, something rare on this show. While she was doing that I transcribed White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane into my song book.
