Sunny Saturday

Starting off with a 7-table bridge game. A nice start to the day. More practicing and finalizing lay of mic stand and laptop today. I find the location of the jack on both my electric and acoustic to not be very conducive to playing while seated. The transmitter plugged in on both is in the way when in a "natural" seated position. I believe the manufacturers oversight of this dilemma is typical. This advanced technology age would be 50% or more better if they actually put themselves in the shoes of the client ... hey just a sec, that may not affect the bottom line, so forget it.

The ladies are going to the Saturday eco-tango market right after the game. We will meet at Cafécito on the main beach for our standard fare. We have two chores while in centro today (so far) ... multivitamins and try to get my broken rimless glasses repaired. The glasses look like a simple fix as the unit does not seem to have suffered any trauma, rather two spikes popped out of one of the lenses. The spikes appear to be in tact as does the spot where the lens receives them.

We headed to the aforementioned market about 10:30, met P&B at their place and found nothing of real interest at said market. We then walked to Cafécito and had coffees as well as Bernie and I carrot cake. Dominique remembered the guillotine from a few days ago and did not try to consume any of the cake. We then headed to the glasses store and left them with the clerk there. We were told to check back with them Monday morning. They open at 10am so it should be interesting to see what they say. We also ordered some bread which will be ready sometime same day after 11am.

We then hit Pepe Guitar and I bought a strap that sits in the sound hole after passing around the bottom of the guitar. Straps like this I have not seen before I started coming to Mexico. They put less strain on the upper back and shoulders. Part of the weight is held by the right lower arm which is hugging the body of the git:

I worked out for about 45  minutes with the new strap and no sore upper back. Every day this week leading up to my second appearance at Zihua Bay this week will involve a full practice with mic and amp. I now have redesigned my first two sets with 40 songs each. I have hyperlinked and used bookmarks to make navigation close to instantaneous for all the material. Word was misbehaving today BADLY ... the first time since yesterday. A reboot of my laptop smartened up Word.

I want to go back to Wordstar or especially WordPerfect so I can reveal codes, reinforcing my opinion of how much I know about software (not). Did it not make us feel important using this feature programmed by the outfit in Orem, Utah, USA? Before we were welcomed to Wordperfect on its splash screen, most of us knew only one town in Utah ... Salt Lake City. Using Wordperfect and knowing another helped contribute to our feeling more geographically unchallenged, ya fig?

If MSWord were a person, here is what I would do to it:

  • Report to the United Nations that this person is abusing clients
  • Somehow ensure this person would NEVER receive any awards of excellence, even if given by MicroSoft
  • Bad mouth it all over the milky way
It is a very unpredictable and poorly behaved piece of software and has been ever since its release in 12 BC. It performs unpredictable acts on its user community and screws up much hard work that its overcharged install base has had to live through since its initial release. It changes fonts, on its own, it indents paragraphs when it feels like and generally goes out of its way to f&*$ up my hard work.

My songbook in Word, only because edlin does not run on Windows, is ready. I have a witness to the fact that:

  1. All my hyperlinks work
  2. All my bookmarks are active and working
  3. My pagination is perfect
  4. My fonts are identical to what is expected, their type and size dictated by their location in the document
  5. There is no Times Roman text in the material, a ridiculous font to start out with (I tried to write the font name using it, but it is so ridiculous that it does not appear in the list of fonts I can install ... who wouddha thunk ✊?)
  6. MSWord had not screwed me for the last 193 seconds
My witness has documented all of the six items above and is ready to testify in a court of law if (more than likely when) MSWord screws me again. I do not anticipate that will happen until at least 9pm Chihuahua time on Saturday, January 13, 2024 (oh ya, which is today!!!!), a lengthy 27 minutes from now.
