MS Word = pain

I have been having endless problems with bookmarks and same document hyperlinks lately in Word. Their lite product is called BS Word and the BS stands for what we know it does. Then the MS in MS Word stands for more of it.

I have set up this sweet network of links to allow me to move around my songbook quickly. Not rocket science ...


These hyperlinks keep breaking!! Not all of them, just many. I have 600+ songs in this document and recently I had to fix 25+. What started happening is I would click on the She Loves You link in the list of songs, and the cursor would jump to nana land a ½ page or so above where the song is located. The same thing would happen something like 50% of the time when I tried to navigate to the song from the list of Beatle songs.

I bookmark the song so I can get from the song back to where I came from in the song list. In other words I just have to

  • Click the hyperlink from She Loves You [in the song list] and get transported to the song
  • Click the hyperlink [imbedded in the song] to get back to its location in the song list

I also bookmark the artist so I can get from the song back to the location of the artist. This way I can do more than one song from that artist in a row. In this case I just have to

  • Click the hyperlink from She Loves You [in the Beatles artist list] and get transported to the song
  • Click the hyperlink [imbedded in the song] to get back to the list of Beatles songs
The hyperlinks are not working properly, for whatever reason ... your guess is as good as mine. There is no way to fix this problem. I know of one where I select all the text in the document then press F9 asking Word to update all the links. This is what I see as this is working

I wonder what Word is actually doing. I have not touched any of these links for as long as a few years YET they are broken even after I have updated fields in the document.

We are working on a plan to do a trip out west to two or more of Comox BC, Calgary AB, and Saskatoon SK. The latter two will definitely be on the agenda but the first is up in the air. This is a couple that Dominique had not seen for 40+ years and the woman is her son Michael's Godmother. She is having trouble getting a response back from them. We were thinking of stopping in Vancouver to see cousin Valerie. She is having renos on her kitchen around the time we were thinking of being mid to late June. She is not even sure if she can live in at her place during the renos so we would not be able to stay with her.

I test drove buying airfare from Westjet involving YXE to YYC then back to YOW. We have a companion voucher as a result of the RBC/WestJet travel credit card but it appears that a multi-city flight is not eligible for using of that voucher. We are sure that the rules governing usage are so complex that most card holders could never use that benefit anyways ... leaning towards the needs of the vendor rather than the traveller. Pretty much in line with most companies' motto ... You can all go to h__l but give us your money anyways NOW!!

Oh my ... how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that it was Wednesday. The place looks like someone is leaving in a few days. The mattress in bedroom #2 has been tood up with the mattress cover side pointing out. The first two kitchen chairs are parked on the cement couch in the L/R. Dominique will ask Paty to drop in after the bridge game Saturday so we can discuss the idiosyncrasies of looking after our place until our return. Doing the extended walk to the end of the canal path past Soris. We will pick up some shredded pork to make sandwiches for the flight(s) on Sunday. We are so close to the end of the line as far as getting the place ready. Other than the Fire TV sticks, the balance of the work involves moving stuff around and covering furniture.
