Big week next week

We anticipate the throngs of people will start arriving mid-week. They call it Semana Santa, being the week leading up to Easter. As was the case a number of times already this stay in Zihua, the crowds will probably be bigger than "normal" since they cannot go to Acapulco. Playing at Zihua Bay this evening and Monday next week.

We are in the last week of Lynn and Ranae's being in Zihua. They have a celebration of life for a husband of one of Lynn's sisters in early April. The ridiculous airlines have been cutting flights from Zihua back to places such as Minnesota like crazy. Talk about an industry out of control. We remember when they raised their fares when fuel was so expensive a number of years ago then as the price went down, the fares stayed the same. They had little choice of when to fly back to MSP (Minneapolis - St. Paul) so are leaving well before necessary.

We headed out for a walk about 11am and did our normal route through centro after a stop at Cafécito. We took a right a few blocks down Cinco de Mayo and bought a table runner for us and some small glass goblets for Sue Russell and Wayne who we will be staying with when we are in Comox June 16-20 ...

In yesterday's bored meeting, we discussed distributing a 100+ page updated copy of the resident's handbook. I believe the bored was prepared to send out old and new copy and let the recipients match up old and new to ascertain whether they think discussion is needed on one or more edits to existing rules. I pointed out how rude that would be and offered to build three documents, each serving a different purpose:

  1. The 2016 copy of the handbook for the convenience of the owners
  2. The 2024 copy with Word's track changes showing in red
  3. A list of 2016 rules' text alongside 2024 rules' text changes
Number 3 will save the owners thousands of hours of time were we to expect them to eyeball the old and figure out what has changed by comparing it to the new.


The changes are as follows:
  • The letter a has been added to properly complete the word track
  • The word too is strike through showing it has been deleted
  • The text if you have not seen it before has been added
  • The spelling of aren has been corrected to aren't
  • The text MS Word has been added to replace the text Office which shows as strike through

Ooh what a lucky man

As so eloquently put by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer in their 1970s song. I have been lucky so many times in my 74+ years on this planet. Some of the highlights ... the experience having four offspring and, to date, four grandchildren being in the right place at the right time, being Miami Beach in September 1990 for an Oracle user group conference that ended up sparking a torrid career in high tech discovery of high grade dysplasia, a precancerous diagnosis during a routine scope in 2013 that was arrested by a right hemicolectomy participating in the Canadian government's retraining program in 1983-84 that allowed me to take the four semester course at Algonquin College that kickstarted my ventures into high tech getting to know some folks from the Boston area that catapulted me into the Oracle Press publishing initiative with McGraw-Hill that led to the sale of hundreds of thousands of our/my books over a 15-year period having first-hand experiences in poor east Africa that put into...

Melt the seal ... time is here

Oh my ... how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that it was Wednesday. The place looks like someone is leaving in a few days. The mattress in bedroom #2 has been tood up with the mattress cover side pointing out. The first two kitchen chairs are parked on the cement couch in the L/R. Dominique will ask Paty to drop in after the bridge game Saturday so we can discuss the idiosyncrasies of looking after our place until our return. Doing the extended walk to the end of the canal path past Soris. We will pick up some shredded pork to make sandwiches for the flight(s) on Sunday. We are so close to the end of the line as far as getting the place ready. Other than the Fire TV sticks, the balance of the work involves moving stuff around and covering furniture.
