Easter Sunday

Mi chica was off to church just after 8:30am, a little earlier than usual perhaps contemplating its being packed due with today's religious significance. She returned just before 10:30 to an ommlet I made with broccoli, olives, onions, and cheese. We are dining tonight on an old favourite ... a whole bird in the air fryer.

I have been doing some surfing for flights from Ottawa to Guadalajara the week of October 21. The best deal is with Volaris, Mexico-based, but it did not take me long to figure out why their fares are so low ... a charge for carry-on of $55 and baggage fee of $116 per. The carry-on fee + the $59 extra (than most other carriers) makes an extra $114 ticket fee. So their amazing price of $312 CAD is really $426, bringing their charges in line with what other carriers are asking. We have a number of options and will look into making some reservations in late July or early August:

  1. Ottawa ➠ Montreal ➠ Mexico City ➠ Guadalajara
  2. Ottawa ➠ Toronto ➠ Chicago ➠ Guadalajara
  3. Ottawa ➠ Calgary ➠ Los Angeles ➠ Guadalajara
  4. Ottawa ➠ Montreal ➠ Houston ➠ Guadalajara
The above trips involve combinations of Westjet, Porter, Delta, United, Air Canada, Volaris, and AeroMexico. As of today, the prices are not a pretty sight, though we pray they will come down noticeably as we get close to that week in October. We always have the option of flying out of Montreal but that costs us $225 for Joe to drive us there. So if the fare from Ottawa compared to than from Montreal differs by anything over about $112 each, the drive to Montreal is mpore attractive. We shall see ..

I brought up the suitcases from the storage unit so the prep for the April 14 departure. I am 50% packed and that is a bit more than mi chica. One of the nice things about owning or renting somewhere else than Ottawa is  one does not have to cart clothes and other crap back and forth.

It was interesting at one site I checked about airfare. They had two flights leaving at the same time ... 10:05am. One was listed as taking 11h45 minutes to get from Montreal to Guadaljara. The other was supposed to take 9h45m. I check the flight number on both flights and they were the same. Oh my. I guess the 9+ hour flight was for business class travellers and the 11+ for everyone else. It reminds me of a flight I took many years ago with Air Canada from Ottawa to New York. Aic Canada prides itself on making all announcements in English and French. There was no attendant on the plane to do the French, so a recording took care of it. We were told we were flying at 29,000 feet in English and 32,000 in French. Must be one of the two story 747s.
